HIV infection has a significant impact on the spread of tuberculosis.

With the increase in the number of HIV infected patient, the number of fungal infections, including visceral mycoses, is significantly increasing. Over the past decade, visceral mycoses have become an important public health problem in many countries of the world. The risk factors for mycosis in HIV-infected patients are severe immunodeficiency (CD4 less than 200 cells / μl), the lack of the antiretroviral therapy and the presence of foci of superficial candidiasis.

The tuberculosis process and the HIV infection are two diseases that exacerbate each other. With the addition of mycotic infection, even more significant immunodefficiency occurs, and the condition of patients deteriorates more significantly due to the negative effect of the association of microorganisms on the human body.

However, the features of the visceral mycoses in patients with tuberculosis comorbid with the HIV infection remain insufficiently investigated. Active data collection will be carried out at the clinics of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Phthisiatry and Pulmonology, the Clinical Hospital of Phthisiatry and Pulmonology and the Research Institute of Virology of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The planned study will identify and evaluate the severity of clinical polymorphism of the revealed mycotic co-infections, develop diagnostic methods and treatment tactics, and evaluate the prognosis of the patients with HIV and tuberculosis.

“Our goal is to determine the prevalence of various clinical forms of mycotic co-infections in patients with tuberculosis associated with HIV, prevent further generalization of the infection, improve treatment outcomes, and reduce mortality,” said project manager Dr. K. Mukhamedov.
